Dr. Best, a native Texan from Jasper, is a board certified urologist. He received his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Texas in Austin in 1973. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio in 1977. Dr. Best was elected to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha organizations for academic excellence in college and medical school. He did his urology internship and residency at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio. This training program is in the top 10 training centers in the U.S. based on academic performance of the residents. Dr. Best achieved the nation’s highest score on his board certification exams in 1982. He completed his board certification in adult and pediatric urology in 1984.
Dr. Best received a much-desired assignment to Elmendorf Regional Air Force Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, and was stationed there from 1982 to 1986 as Chief of Urology. After nearly 10 years of active duty in the Air Force, Dr. Best returned to San Antonio and started private practice in 1986. He has published articles in urological journals and has made presentations of his work at national urological meetings. Dr. Best treats all types of urological disease, but no longer treats pediatric patients.
Dr. Best is married and has four sons. He is an avid outdoorsman and hunter, and has several entries in the Boon and Crockett Record Book of North American Big Game. He supports numerous wildlife and conservation societies.
