Dr. Rittenhouse is a well-respected surgeon who has practiced in San Antonio for nearly 40 years. He operates exclusively in the South Texas Medical Center and primarily in the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital. He is one of several surgeons affiliated with the START Center for Cancer Care.
During his long career, Dr. Rittenhouse has focused primarily on the surgical care of patients with cancer of the breast, gastrointestinal tract, liver, skin, endocrine system, and soft tissues. He does not perform operations related to obesity, gynecology, urology, orthopedics, or neurosurgery. He has established a reputation for doing complex procedures, often in cooperation with other surgical colleagues. He also is comfortable performing more emergent procedures – such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, bowel obstructions, and hernias.
Dr. Rittenhouse is conservative by nature. He carefully weighs the risks of a procedure against the potential rewards. He understands the standard of care in his community, and he has a stellar reputation for honesty and integrity. With Dr. Rittenhouse, the welfare of the patient is paramount, even if it means referring the patient to his friends and colleagues who might be more qualified to handle the problem.
