Dr. Gladys Rodriguez is a medical oncologist with the START Center, in the Breast Cancer Center.  She received her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She completed both her internship and residency at the Veterans Administration San Juan Medical Center in Puerto Rico where she served as the first female Chief Resident. She completed her fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio with a focus on early drug development and was the Clinical Director of the Drug Development Program at the CTRC. She joined START in 1996 with special interests in cancer research and new drug therapies for cancer. She served as principal investigator in multiple national and international Phase III clinical trials for cancer treatment. She also is the past president of the Texas Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Rodriguez has special interest in access to care for cancer patients and has worked with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Health Disparity Committee, Workforce Advisory Committee, Government Relations Committee. She is the first Latina of US origin to serve in the ASCO Board of Directors representing community oncologist. She is also the founder of Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award for Latina Oncologists to increase research opportunities for underserved providers.
