Wilmer Kyle Mounger, MSN, AGACNP-BC
Surgical Oncology
Wilmer “Kyle” Mounger is an Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner. He
originally graduated from UT Health San Antonio in 2013 with his BSN. From 2013 – 2020
he worked on a Specialty Surgical Unit at Methodist Hospital, as a Registered Nurse. While
working there, he served on the Shared Governance Council as Secretary and Chairman. He
also was a member of the hospital-based Staff Nurse Practice Council where he continued to
offer his expertise and work on improvement projects for the hospital. After serving as
Chairman, he was made relief charge nurse with only a few years of experience for a 40-bed
complex surgical unit. Due to his knowledge and skills set, he quickly became one of the go-to
members of not only the unit, but for the entire hospital.
In 2019, he graduated with his MSN from UT Health San Antonio as a Nurse Practitioner.
Following this he completed his surgical First Assisting program, due to his love for surgical
patients. Since the completion of the program, he has worked in various specialties: head and
neck oncology, breast cancer, plastic and reconstructive surgery, wound care, and most
recently has transitioned to the high-risk GI and pancreatic cancer program at The START
center. He not only assists in the operating room but provides longer term follow up and
surveillance for his patients. Upon joining he founded the survivorship program for GI and
Pancreatic cancer survivors and continues to serve his community by training nurse
practitioners and working to further research in this field.
